The quicksolver 3 product is the result of a major re-engineering of the highly successful quicksolver 2 to incorporate the Microsoft Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies. Instec's quicksolver 3 leverages the easy accessibility of the Internet, the ease of administration of centralized software, and the responsive (no refresh), high-definition UI that appeals to users. With quicksolver 3, processing is split between the user’s desktop and the server(s) in the cloud. This is accomplished by introducing an intermediate layer of code that is responsible for managing the interaction with the user. This code is automatically downloaded to the user’s desktop (quicksolver 3 client) the first time quicksolver 3 is invoked. The servers – referred to as quicksolver 3 servers - house the bulk of the policy data and handle processor intensive tasks like rating calculations and forms assembly through a set of services. The quicksolver 3 client and quicksolver 3 services communicate through a robust protocol geared toward RIA.

Microsoft's Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is used by the quicksolver 3 client to present a high-definition, rich user-interface (UI) that controls interaction with the user. The primary policy processing is performed by a set of services that are located on centralized server(s). The quicksolver 3 client and quicksolver 3 servers communicate using the Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) technologies. This split of processing between the desktop and the centralized server(s) eliminates unnecessary roundtrips and corresponding screen refreshes to provide a high level of productivity and the best possible user experience. Microsoft ClickOnce technology allows the quicksolver 3 client to be self-updating. Not having to tend to every desktop with recurrent software updates makes administration simple.
